(Rat)ical escapades in eco/allergy friendly cuisine.
Yup, that about sums it up!
I love rats. I love food. And despite common sense, they can go together, as seen in my favorite movie of all time. I have taken on the challenge of creating a cuisine of food that is friendly to you, your allergies, animals, and the planet. This happens with quite a few mishaps, but it’s all an adventure, right?
About me:
Vinny and I– he is one of the most amazing rats. Ever.
At the ripe old age of eleven, I watched a documentary called: “Animals: Friend or Food”, and turned vegan immediately. Veganism, which I am very passionate about, led me to other forms of activism and opportunities, including being a photographer for a 2011 ten-day peace walk.
I had been gluten and wheat free for six years, but I have tested out eating it to see if it was truly causing my problems. Read more about that here. I seem to be having no issues eating it, but I want to make recipes that my mom (who is celiac) and anyone struggling with allergies can enjoy!
I have been in and out of public school all my life, but have now settled on unschooling. Read a bit more about my personal homeschool philosophy here. If you are a teen interested in homeschooling, I can’t recommend Grace Llewellyn’s book: “The Teenage Liberation Handbook” enough!

Hey, I’m turning fourteen in a month and I just started a baking blog last week! I enjoy writing and eating healthy, too. Could you come visit my site and give me some tips? I’d love you to rate this almost-vegan cupcake recipe that I made. Just on the way, I think you’re an amazing blogger.
VEGirl, this is my first time on your blog but wow, totally cool! i’m going to subscribe right now–cant’t wait to keep reading
Hi VEGirl,
I’m a fourteen food blogger too! I just discovered your blog, and I love it. It’s great to meet other teenage food bloggers.
That’s so cool that you are so young with a passion for vegan life. I’m really glad to see that! Keep it up
Nice to meet you! I am really impressed that you are self taught. The American education system is mostly complete crap..
Agreed!! Hence why I left it
You are inspiring.
Just found your blog, love it!! And I love that you are so young– so have so much promise ahead of you! You write beautifully, as well. Very inspiring, I’ll be sure to come back for more
Wow! You are amazing! I am so impressed with everything you’re doing at such a young age. We have a lot in common and I love your tagline. Keep up the great work and I look forward to following you! Are you on Facebook and/or Twitter? If so, follow me and I’ll follow you back. : )
Unfortunately I’m not on facebook or twitter, but if I ever get one, I’ll let you know!
I can only agree with all the others! You write beautifully and it’s very inspiring to see a girl at such a young age already being that reflective. I wish I had been like that when I was your age! Plus I very much like your pictures.
Keep it up, you’re doing great
So glad to see the next generation of gluten-free vegans is strong. I look forward to following your blog. I’ll look for you on facebook. Love your name. Thanks from other VEG adults.
Hi! I just found your blog, we have soooo much in common! I am 15, too and I am homeschooled!I do my classes online. I am a health conscious teen and I love cooking and baking! Your blog is so inspiring!
Hey there! I just found your blog through Amanda! I cannot believe you’re only 15! Your words come across so much more mature than I’m used to hearing from teens your age…and you photography is AMAZING! I only wish I had learned about blogging and photography when I was your age, but better late than never, right?
I’ve never really been a fan of rats, but yours are THE cutest I’ve ever seen!
This is the GREATEST blog from a fifteen year old!
Great work! Keep it up!

Although, this is a couple of months old..if you have any advice on how to answer/deal with http://caloriecount.about.com/vegetarian-vegan-teens-friends-responses-ft193595-1, please let our friend who wrote this know!
Thanks for being you and for the blog.
Love your blog!! You have inspired me to unschool my kids vegan kids (4 & 1 now) when the time comes!
Wow! YOU are an inspiration– I wish you and children the best of luck in your journey (they will have fun, I’m sure
)
I think you might like this (with gluten free pizza crust of course): http://lechateausoleil.blogspot.com/search/label/Beetza
Omg, so impressed that your site is iPad optimaed, how cool! Now tell me how you did it, please!!! Just made your banana basil pancakes, delish!!! Made a few modifications they were a little too smooth in texture for me. Thought i’d share. I used oat flour in place of the rice flour, added 1-2 tbsp of oat bran (didn’t measure, just added some in some texture), and I upped the baking soda to 1/4 tsp. That was an acidnt but what the heck! I also tried one batch with mini choc chips! Any way, thanks for the inspiration!!!
Hi!
I ran across one of your comments on another blog and was excited to see a blogger in my own age range (just turned 16 in May). I look forward to reading your blog, and I was wondering if you had any tips on how I could start my own blog (I have been considering it for a while…).
Thanks!
Adara
You seem so mature for your age and I love that. It’s so hard to come by teens who can hold intelligent conversations.
Can’t wait to keep reading
Hi Veg Girl,
Love your blog. And your photography is amazing. Have you thought about entering the “Wildlife Photographer of the Year” competition? There’s many age/animal/landscape divisions and it’s a worldwide competition. We see it every year (in Sydney, Australia).
PS I used to have rats too. They are such an amazing pet!
WOW. Who are you and where do you come from??? (and I mean that in one of the highest forms of flattery that I can possibly think of!!!) I am sooooo impressed by you–I think I am going to move to where you live and be your apprentice! You are amazing, truly.
Wow, thank you for your sweet comment. And I do not come from this planet… I come from the planet of rats
Your little rats are adorable. I too love rats. Used to have two of them.
